PPA Cover – Wednesday afternoons – Mr S Glover

Outdoor PE will take place on Wednesday and Friday .
This term Year 2 will be learning all about Florence Nightingale. Nightingale also known as “The Lady with the Lamp”, was a nurse during the Crimean War and the founder of modern nursing. The name “The Lady with the Lamp” came from her habit of making rounds during the night when all the other medical staff had gone to bed. We are looking forward to finding out about her life and learning about a fellow nurse, Mary Seacole.
World Book Day
Year 2 had a fantastic day celebrating World Book Day. Our theme was Julia Donaldson books and the children looked amazing in their costumes. The day was filled with lots of fun and laughter. The highlight of the day for me was the Where’s Wally Hunt around school!
Why do animals live in different places?
This term in year 2 we will be learning about living things and their habitats. Alongside this we will be using the story ‘There’s A Tiger in the Garden’ to inspire our writing lessons.
This week Year 2 had some special visitors pop by to see them! We were lucky enough to have Noah’s Ark come and do a workshop in class all about animals and their habitats. The children were lucky enough to be able to hold a Hissing Cockroach, a Giant Snail, a Tortoise and a Python! The children were fantastic and so brave (Much braver than Miss Sambrook!!)
Why were there so few survivors when the Titanic sank?
This term in Year 2, we are very excited to be learning all about the Titanic! Did you know the Titanic had four funnels but only three of them actually had a purpose? I didn’t either! We can’t wait to find out more information and facts. During our writing lessons we will be using the story ‘Samson’s Titanic Journey’.
Key Stage One Christmas Performance – Everyone Loves a Baby!
WOW!! What can I say…. What fantastic performances we have had this week! The children sang their hearts out and acted as if they were professionals. I am sure you will agree that it was a lovely performance and you should all be very proud of your children.
Children in Need 2019
This Friday was Children in Need day. The children were asked to bring in a donation to wear something Spotty. It was lovely seeing all of the children participating in this and the class looked very bright and colourful! For our activity we brought in photos of us as babies and we had to try and guess who was who!
To introduce our new topic this term Year 2 had a WOW day. Our first activity of the day was to create a junk model Titanic! As you can see from the pictures below our children are very creative. We then learnt about the different passengers on the Titanic and found out in third class they would eat Plum Pudding after their main evening meals. So, Year 2 got their baking hats on and made our very own version of plum pudding. The children thought they were delicious – so did Mr Walters!
During term 1 we will be looking at different materials and their properties. Our story that we will be focusing on is ‘The Storm Whale’ by Benji Davies. Not only is this a lovely book for the children to immerse themselves it also links with our topic of materials as we will be looking at the different materials that are in our oceans.
