Outdoor Education

Studies have shown that learning outdoors can:

  • have an impact on mental health by reducing stress and anxiety and improving mood
  • encourage movement and curiosity
  • promote active participation enabling more children to maintain focus and attention which leads to a better retention of information.

With this in mind we have mapped in over 60 opportunities across our curriculum to take learning outside.

Example of Y2 activities mapped into the curriculum

To help us to do this, we have invested in a number of different resources such as:

  • Planting beds for all Year Groups
  • Garden shed and planting tools
  • Bottle green House
  • Saplings for our orchard
  • Renovations on our pond area
  • Outdoor shelters
  • Wellies and Welly Racks
  • Specific Science equipment such as: large thermometers, anemometers, time lapse cameras, compasses, rain gauge and bug viewers
