2026 South-West of England Champions!
Our amazing children have done it!Â
The brilliant pupils of Coniston Primary School have accomplished an outstanding and deservedly commendable achievement by winning the Southwest of England Sportshall Athletics competition.Â
The team demonstrated exceptional skill, unwavering determination, and genuine pride throughout every event. Their resilience exemplified by one competitor who, despite spraining her ankle mid-race, continued to perform with remarkable courage and composure.
 Beyond their athletic ability, the pupils displayed exemplary sportsmanship. They encouraged competitors from other schools, offering support to those they met while waiting for their events, embodying the very best attributes of the children of our school.
Faced with considerable pressure, they rose to the occasion with maturity and confidence: delivering performances that reflected both their hard work and their strong team spirit. We are immensely proud of every one of them.Â
This achievement will no doubt remain a lasting and influential memory—one that will inspire them to believe in their abilities and strive for excellence in all that they pursue in the future.

The athletes of Coniston Primary School took part in the Yate Partnership Sportshall Athletics Competition. With a record number of schools participating, it was set to be the biggest challenge yet. However, the children were determined to defend their title. Nervous yet excited, the children channelled their nerves into brilliant performances. All of the races were extremely exciting and hotly contested with Coniston winning many; never outside of the top three. The field events were also outstanding. Many personal bests were achieved. The children showed that they can perform so well when under pressure.
The final scores can be seen below. Coniston are champions and will go through to the South-West Finals! Well done everyone!

SOUTHWEST CHAMPIONS 2025!
This amazing team of athletes have gone one step further on their Sportshall Athletics journey. Having won the area finals at Yate Academy, these children went on to represent Coniston Primary School and Yate in the Southwest Finals. Competing against the seven best schools from Bath, North East Somerset, Bristol and South Gloucestershire our children excelled. In every event, they were determined, focussed and eager to demonstrate their impressive skills.  We witnessed some incredible running in the relay races and superb athleticism in the obstacle relays.   The field events were just as impressive. We had with many 1st place performances and some best ever performances, especially in the jumping events. Four of these amazing children have been selected for trials for the national competition in March. Â
Well done to everyone that took part. You were and are a credit to our school. We are very proud of all you!
Sportshall Athletics Festival 2025
A superb performance from the brilliant pupils of Coniston Primary School at this years’ Sportshall Athletics Festival at Yate Academy. Competing against 7 other schools for a place in the regional finals, every child excelled. Every single running race was won by our boys and girls and the field events saw some incredible, best ever performances. A very strong performance from our school coming out as clear winners. The children are all very excited to represent our area in the finals.
Regional South West Finals at UWE 2024
This year has been another exceptionally good year for sporting success. We were crowned South Gloucestershire Small School’s Champions again in the Sportshall Athletics Competition run at Yate Academy. We then finished 2nd at the Regional South West Finals at UWE. Runners-Up in a competition that has 100s of schools taking part locally and regionally, is a huge achievement.
West of England School Games
Coniston Primary School pupils put in amazing performances at the West of England School Games Final. Held at the University of the West of England, this was a huge event full to the brim with talent and determination; our pupils represented Coniston with pride, passion and sportsmanship. The boys and girls scores were combined and Coniston placed well clear in the silver medal position just 16 points off the gold. A massive well done all of the children! They all rose to the occasion and produced some stand out performances. We had winners in the 1 lap relay, 2 lap relay, speed bounce, standing long jump, standing triple jump and javelin. Once again, they’ve performed brilliantly in and around all of the events. Well done to all of you!
