Quad Kids County Champions!

On 29th June, the Coniston Quad Kids once again showcased their sporting talent on the athletics track. Competing against seven other small schools, they faced some of the best young athletes in the county.

Having reviewed their scores from the previous round, the children knew exactly where they could improve to earn even more points for the team. Once again, they didn’t disappoint.

There were countless personal bests in the jumping and throwing events, with some children achieving distances they never thought possible. Their determination and resilience were especially evident in the gruelling 600m race, where every runner showed incredible grit, pushing themselves to the finish in an effort to gain valuable points for the team.

Their hard work and commitment were richly rewarded. When the final scores were announced, Coniston were crowned overall winners and are now Quad Kids County Champions!

A huge congratulations to this fantastic team on an outstanding achievement.

Regional Quad Kids Champions!

On Monday 18th May Coniston pupils took to the athletics track to compete in this year’s Quad Kids Competition aiming to qualify for the South-West Championships. They were competing over 600m, 75m sprint, the Vortex throw and standing long jump.

Once again, the children showed an admirable amount of determination and self-belief. Every child was totally committed to perform to their highest level. Even though it was a wet and windy evening some even achieved personal best scores.

What really shoe through in this event was the way the children supported and encouraged each other. It gave each of them a boost, which was much needed, especially during the gruelling 600m race.

Our children perform amazingly well. Once the scores were added up, our children came out as clear winners. They even beat the large school’s winners score by a huge 200 points!

Well done to these amazing children and good luck in the next round.

A special mention to Quinn and Scarlett for achieving 2nd and 3rd place in the individual scores.

QUAD KIDS COUNTY CHAMPIONS!!

On Monday 23rd June 5 boys and 5 girls from Coniston Primary School represented the school in the Quad Kids County Finals. Quad kids is an event to identify all round athletic talent in individuals and a competition to award those schools with the most all-round ability as a team. The children compete in jumping events, throwing events, sprinting events and middle-distance events – mimicking the heptathlon and decathlon. Having qualified as the leading school from the Yate/South Glos area, we were up against some stiff competition. The best schools from the old Avon County were present: schools from Bath to Weston-Super-Mare. Although nervous, the children performed brilliantly. They excelled in every single event. As every event was timed and measured, we had no clear way of knowing how we were doing in terms of placing throughout the event. But we did know that every single child was giving their all: that they were trying their very best to show what they could do. This resulted in some thrilling performances in front of their friends, teachers and parents. The children were brilliant ambassadors for our school too. One of our children helped and supported another child from a different school who was suffering in the 600m and our children could be seen laughing and joking with their competitors throughout the day. It was a day made special by the children in many ways.

With the 21 schools lined up for the presentation, it was announced that Coniston Primary School were the winners and so were the 2025 Quad Kids County Champions. A massive achievement. Well done everyone!

Yate district Quad Kids athletics

On Monday 19^th May 5 boys and 5 girls from Coniston took part in the Yate district Quad Kids athletics competition. This is an event aimed towards development in the heptathlon and decathlon. The events were: The Standing Long Jump, Vortex throw, 75m sprint and a 600m middle distance race. The girls and boys produced outstanding results. We had many first and second place finishes and, more importantly than that, every child gave 100%.

This was particularly evident in the 600m where you could see the strain and determination on the children’s faces. We are very proud of this and they are too. As usual, the behaviour and attitude of the children was perfect; they were a joy to be around. Coniston topped the table and are now through to the regional event, which means competing with children from all over the South West – a massive achievement! Well done boys and girls!
