Football Tournament
In the last week of term, the football team took part in the small schools South Gloucestershire PE association seven a side tournament at the GFA in Almondsbury. The teams were split into two groups of five with the winner of each group going through to the next stage of the tournament in November.
We were in a group with Iron Acton, Frenchay, St Mary’s and Wick. Our first game was against Iron Acton and we got off to a great start with a 2-1 win. This included an excellent long-range free kick from Logan. In our second fixture against Frenchay we drew 1-1 with our goal coming from an excellent passing move involving most of our players. In our third fixture we drew again (0-0) but put in our best display so far and would have won if it had not been for a sensational performance by the opposition’s goal keeper. These results, and the results of the other games in the group, meant we went into our final game knowing a win would secure our position as group winners. The boys continued how they had left off in the previous fixture and put in a fantastic performance with sensational chip from Preston securing a 2-0 win and our place in the next stage of the tournament.
Throughout the morning the team showed an excellent attitude: they worked as a team and supported one another; they accepted all refereeing decisions with grace and played with smiles on their faces. We can’t wait to the next round.
A superb performance from the Coniston football team today at Almondsbury Football Club. We won our first Match 2-1 vs St. Mary’s and then played St. Paul’s for a place in the final, which we won 1-0. A very tense, high quality final was won by St. Michael’s. Well done to them and a very well done to our team! They, once again, did Coniston Primary School proud!
On Monday 3rd February, Coniston’s girls football team kicked off the new year with an amazing 6-0 win over Filton Avenue. The girls were incredible and showed real class with their finishes! The teamwork and effort was outstanding, well done girls – Miss Powell and Miss Sambrook are very proud!!
