The New Primary Curriculum
The government introduced a new National Curriculum from September 2014. This curriculum provides children with an introduction to the essential knowledge, skills and understanding needed to progress successfully through primary school and be prepared for secondary education.
We have planned our curriculum around 6 term-long topics. These topics have been chosen to interest and engage the children in their learning, with foundation subjects, especially science, geography and history, providing the main focus. A range of first hand experiences are planned both within the school and beyond, providing memorable and rich learning opportunities.
English is taught separately and is usually linked to a class book; however opportunities to read and write are planned for within all topics.
Maths, RE, PE, PSHE and French are also timetabled separately, but aspects may be covered through the topic.
